Description

These Caramel Apple Cinnamon Waffles are the ultimate autumn breakfast treat, combining fluffy waffles with sweet caramelized apples and a hint of spice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith work best)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 12 tablespoons heavy cream (to thin, if needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the waffle maker to medium-high heat.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. In another bowl, combine the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  3. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the butter and let it melt completely. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg (if using) until combined. Add the sliced apples, tossing to coat them in the caramel mixture. Cook for 5-7 minutes or until the apples are tender and glazed. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Lightly grease the waffle maker with cooking spray or melted butter. Pour the batter onto the waffle iron, being careful not to overfill. Close the lid and cook for 4-5 minutes or until the waffles are golden brown and cooked through. Repeat with the remaining batter.
  5. In a small saucepan, gently heat the caramel sauce over low heat until it’s warm and pourable. If it’s too thick, stir in a little heavy cream to thin it out.
  6. Plate the waffles, top with a generous spoonful of caramelized apples, and drizzle with warm caramel sauce. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

[‘Don’t overmix the batter to keep waffles fluffy.’, ‘Grease the waffle maker lightly for easy release.’, ‘Caramelize the apples until tender but not mushy.’, ‘Keep cooked waffles warm in a 200°F oven while finishing the batch.’, ‘Customize sweetness by adjusting the brown sugar or using unsweetened caramel sauce.’]
