Description
These Caramel Pretzel Crack Bars combine crunchy pretzels, gooey caramel, and decadent chocolate for a sweet and salty treat that’s easy to make and wildly addictive.
Ingredients
Scale
- Small pretzels (twists or sticks)
- 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter
- 1 cup (200g) brown sugar (light or dark)
- 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Flaky sea salt (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the pretzels in a single layer to cover the entire surface.
- In a small saucepan, melt 1 cup (226g) of unsalted butter over medium heat. Stir in 1 cup (200g) of brown sugar and bring to a boil. Let it bubble for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly, until it looks thick and glossy.
- Carefully pour the hot caramel over the pretzels, using a spatula to spread it evenly. Work quickly, as the caramel will start to set.
- Transfer the baking sheet to the oven and bake for 5 minutes. This helps the caramel fully coat the pretzels.
- Remove the tray from the oven and sprinkle 2 cups (340g) of chocolate chips over the hot caramel. Let them sit for 2-3 minutes to melt, then spread the chocolate into an even layer.
- Let the bars cool at room temperature for 15 minutes, then transfer to the fridge for at least 1 hour to set completely.
- Once firm, lift the parchment paper to remove the bars from the tray. Use a sharp knife to cut into squares or break into pieces for a more rustic look.
Notes
Work quickly when spreading the caramel, as it hardens fast. Use parchment paper for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking. Customize with toppings like nuts, candy pieces, or sprinkles.
