Description
This Churro Stuffed French Toast combines the indulgent flavors of churros and classic French toast, featuring a creamy filling and a cinnamon sugar coating. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or even dessert!
Ingredients
Scale
- Thick-cut bread (brioche or challah recommended)
- 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp (15g) powdered sugar
- 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract
- 1 cup (240ml) full-fat milk
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp (5g) cinnamon
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp (15g) butter
Instructions
- Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Stuff the bread: Cut thick bread slices (about 1-inch thick) and create a pocket by slicing halfway through the middle. Fill each pocket with the cream cheese mixture.
- Make the custard: In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.
- Dip the bread: Carefully dip each stuffed bread slice into the custard mixture, ensuring all sides are coated. Let any excess drip off.
- Cook the French toast: Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add butter. Fry each slice for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
- Coat with cinnamon sugar: In a shallow dish, mix granulated sugar with cinnamon. Immediately toss the hot French toast in the mixture.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Use day-old bread for better custard absorption. Avoid overfilling the bread to make flipping easier. Keep cooked slices warm in a 200°F (95°C) oven while frying the rest.
