  • Author: David
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

A sweet, salty, and irresistible fall-inspired treat combining caramel, apple, and cinnamon for the ultimate cozy snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups (150g) Rice Chex cereal
  • 1 cup (200g) caramel bits
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter
  • 1 packet (about 20g) apple cider mix
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional mix-ins: apple chips, pretzels, white chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Measure out 6 cups (150g) of Rice Chex cereal and pour it into a large mixing bowl. Set aside.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 1 cup (200g) caramel bits and 2 tablespoons (30g) unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted and smooth. This should take about 1–2 minutes.
  3. Immediately pour the melted caramel mixture over the Chex cereal. Use a spatula to gently toss until every piece is well-coated. Work quickly before the caramel starts to harden!
  4. Combine 1 packet (about 20g) of apple cider mix, 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt in a zip-top bag. Shake well to mix.
  5. Transfer the caramel-coated cereal into the zip-top bag with the powdered sugar mixture. Seal the bag and shake vigorously until the cereal is evenly covered with the apple-cinnamon powdered sugar.
  6. Spread the coated cereal out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let it cool for 15–20 minutes, allowing the caramel to set.
  7. Once cooled, transfer the puppy chow to an airtight container or serve immediately. Enjoy!

Notes

[‘Work quickly to coat the cereal before the caramel hardens.’, ‘Be gentle when mixing and shaking to avoid crushing the cereal.’, ‘Use fresh ingredients like lump-free apple cider mix and powdered sugar for even distribution.’, ‘Place the zip-top bag inside another bowl to catch spills while shaking.’, ‘Customize with mix-ins like pretzels, dried apple pieces, or white chocolate chips.’]
