- 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 tsp cardamom powder
- 1 tbsp rose water
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1/2 cup (120ml) milk
- Optional garnish: edible rose petals, crushed pistachios, powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your cake pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, sift together 1 1/2 cups (190g) of all-purpose flour, 1 tsp of baking powder, and a pinch of salt. Set aside.
- In another bowl, cream 1/2 cup (115g) of unsalted butter and 1 cup (200g) of sugar until light and fluffy—this should take about 3-4 minutes.
- Add 2 room-temperature eggs to the butter mixture, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Stir in 1/2 tsp of cardamom powder and 1 tbsp of rose water.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with 1/2 cup (120ml) of milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
- Once completely cool, garnish with edible rose petals, crushed pistachios, or a dusting of powdered sugar.
Notes
Make sure your butter is softened but not melted. Use fresh cardamom pods for the best flavor. Don’t overmix the batter to avoid a dense cake. If the cake browns too quickly, cover it loosely with foil for the last 10 minutes of baking.
