Healthy Air Fryer Apple Fritter Bites

  • Author: David
  • Total Time: 19 minutes
  • Yield: 12-14 bites (about 4 servings) 1x

Description

These healthy air fryer apple fritter bites are a quick, easy, and lighter twist on classic apple fritters. Crispy outside, tender inside, and packed with juicy apples and cinnamon, they’re ready in just 20 minutes and perfect for snacking or breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large apple, peeled and diced (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith recommended)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (or use half whole wheat for extra nutrition)
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar or packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 tablespoons milk (any kind: dairy or non-dairy)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Optional Glaze:
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 teaspoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and dice the apple into small 1/4-inch cubes.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, coconut or brown sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a medium bowl, beat the egg with applesauce, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir gently with a spatula until just combined. Fold in diced apple.
  5. Preheat air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for about 3 minutes.
  6. Use a small cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop dollops of batter (about 1-inch wide) onto a parchment-lined air fryer basket, spacing about 1 inch apart.
  7. Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 7–9 minutes, until golden brown and firm. Flip bites if bottoms are dark and cook for another 1–2 minutes if needed.
  8. Transfer bites to a wire rack and let cool for 5 minutes.
  9. For optional glaze: Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla in a small bowl. Drizzle or dip fritter bites while still slightly warm. Let glaze set for about 10 minutes.

Notes

For gluten-free, use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend. For vegan, substitute egg with flax egg and use non-dairy milk. Dice apples small for best texture. If batter is thin, chill for 10 minutes before scooping. Use parchment liners for easy release. Glaze while bites are warm for best flavor.
