Description
Perfectly soft on the inside, slightly crisp on the edges, and loaded with gooey cheese, these homemade cheesy breadsticks are the ultimate side dish or meal in themselves.

- 2 cups (240 g) all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (7 g) instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3/4 cup (180 ml) warm water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons (30 g) butter, melted
- 1 cup (100 g) shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup (25 g) grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 1/4 teaspoons of instant yeast, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and 3/4 cup of warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add 2 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8 minutes until smooth and elastic, or use a stand mixer for 5 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise for 1 hour in a warm spot.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle (about 10×12 inches) and transfer it to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella and 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan evenly over the dough. Add garlic powder if desired.
- Cover the dough and let it rise for 20 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the breadsticks for 12–15 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
- Melt 2 tablespoons of butter and brush it over the hot breadsticks.
- Once slightly cooled, slice the breadsticks into strips and serve warm.
Notes
Allowing the dough to rise twice ensures a fluffy texture. Customize the cheese mix to suit your taste, and keep an eye on the oven during the last few minutes to prevent over-browning.
