Description
A tangy and sweet cranberry and port wine reduction that elevates holiday dishes with its vibrant flavors and festive elegance.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 oz fresh cranberries
- 1 cup ruby port wine
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- Zest of 1 orange
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/4 cup water
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Rinse the cranberries and zest your orange. Measure out all other ingredients for a smooth cooking process.
- In a medium saucepan, add the cranberries, port wine, sugar, orange zest, cinnamon stick, water, and a pinch of salt.
- Heat the mixture over medium heat until it reaches a gentle boil, stirring occasionally.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. The cranberries will burst, and the sauce will thicken beautifully.
- If the sauce seems too thick, add a splash of water. If it’s too thin, let it simmer a few minutes longer.
- Stir the sauce and taste for sweetness. Add a touch more sugar if needed, or a squeeze of orange juice for extra brightness.
- Remove the cinnamon stick and let the sauce cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Taste as you go to adjust sweetness. Use fresh cranberries for better texture and flavor. Strain the sauce for a smoother consistency if desired.
